Former Cuban Economy Minister Alejandro Gil sentenced to life imprisonment

The court imposed a single sentence of life imprisonment for "espionage crimes" and "acts detrimental to economic activity," the country's highest court announced in a statement quoted by the French news agency AFP, without giving details about the facts.

The 61-year-old former minister, who held the post from 2018 to 2024 and is known for being close to President Miguel Diaz-Canel, can appeal the sentence.
